DuraGym Launch 2025
On November 6, 2025, we were delighted to welcome Dr. Debra Waters, professor and researcher at the University of Otago (New Zealand) and the University of New Mexico, for a special event within our community: the opening of our DuraGyms.
The presentation began with Dr. Gustavo Duque, who gave a short talk about the DuraGyms. Afterwards, Dr. Waters presented how tailored interventions can support mobility, autonomy, and quality of life, particularly among vulnerable communities in New Zealand and New Mexico.

Capturing vitality: Toward a multidimensional lens for intrinsic capacity and healthy aging
Two members of the Schouela CEDurable team, Dr. Gustavo Duque, Scientific Director, and Hussein Samhat, Coordinator of the Platform for Autonomy, Mobility and Independence, co-authored an article in The Journal of Nutrition, Health and Agingproposing a clearer and more multidimensional definition of vitality, linking it to nutrition, muscle strength, fatigue, and psychosocial well-being to promote healthy aging.

This brief was authored by Dr. Gustavo Duque, an internationally recognized geriatrician and researcher specializing in frailty in older adults. He leads the McGill RUISSS Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Seniors' Health (CEDurable) and contributes to advancing home care policies through technological solutions, evidence-based public policy, and strategic recommendations.
Co-authors include Anna Andrianova, a senior advisor and social worker; Noémie Dulac, a clinical coordinator for seniors; and Andréa Faust, a team lead and kinesiologist.
All are affiliated with CEDurable and the academic and ethics division of the CIUSSS West-Central Montreal. Their work supports aging-in-place and caregiver support initiatives.
