The Simone & Edouard Schouela RUISSS McGill Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Health of Seniors (Schouela CEDurable) is a Centre of Excellence that focuses on the implementation of multiple well-validated interventions to improve the health and well-being of our seniors in the regions covered by the Réseau Universitaire Intégré de Santé et Services Sociaux (RUISSS) McGill.

DuraGym Launch 2025
On November 6, 2025, we were delighted to welcome Dr. Debra Waters, professor and researcher at the University of Otago (New Zealand) and the University of New Mexico, for a special event within our community: the opening of our DuraGyms.
The presentation began with Dr. Gustavo Duque, who gave a short talk about the DuraGyms. Afterwards, Dr. Waters presented how tailored interventions can support mobility, autonomy, and quality of life, particularly among vulnerable communities in New Zealand and New Mexico.

Professor Psychiatry and Medical Anthropology • Harvard University
A pioneer of medical anthropology and cultural psychiatry, Dr. Kleinman's work-including The Illness Narratives and The Soul of Care (written after his wife’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis)-has reshaped how medicine understands care, meaning, medical education, and the patient's voice.

Launch of the DuraGyms | Debra Waters PhD

The Launch of the DuraGyms will take place on November 6, 2025, featuring a lecture by Professor Debra Waters, PhD, on improving functional capacity in seniors through evidence-based exercise programs. The free event, held from 4:00–5:00 p.m. at the Jewish General Hospital (with online access), will be followed by a cocktail reception celebrating the opening of the DuraGyms.
